Perkasie Hometown team member Dave Worthington is involved the overhaul of our historic Kulp Park baseball field on Second Street, which is now underway.

Dave took this picture last week as the crew started field renovations. Dave chairs Perkasie’s Parks and Recreation committee, which includes Perkasie Hometown team member Joel Nieto. The committee worked with Perkasie Mayor Jeff Hollenbach and Perkasie Borough’s staff to win more than $1 million in state funding for the project.

The ballfield was built in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and has been the host of many baseball games in Perkasie Borough, a town with a long baseball tradition. Over time, drainage issues have left the infield soggy, the lighting became outdated, and safety features like fencing and netting are missing or worn down.

For the past two years, Jeff and Dave worked with our staff on the complicated funding and planning process. Now, the field will have a grass infield, new low-impact lighting, and ADA-compliant features.

The project is expected to be completed later this fall.
